After buying my helicopter in December of 2006, it was a challenge learning to fly outdoors.
While watching R/C planes flying overhead at the Burlington soccer fields, Leonard Bainter
and I dreamed about having a place to fly where no rain or wind could hamper us.  During
the next few weeks I made several phone calls to different school districts in Skagit County.
I was able to rent an elementary school gymnasium in the Sedro-Woolley school district.  It
has not been all fun and flying - there have been many hurdles that we needed to
overcome.  Having no experience in forming a club, I was learning as I went along.  The
first hurdle we had was finding flying space on a regular basis as we were in competition
with a local junior basketball league.  Second was an issue of liability insurance and this is
when we decided that we should look at becoming a non-profit organization.  This was
accomplished in January 2008.  In order to become a non-profit we had to form a board of
directors.  I would like to thank Leonard Bainter and Morrie Robinson for agreeing to join
me as board members to get this non-profit status.  Five months later we now have our
own web site and an average of 15 pilots flying at each fly-in.

One of the best things that has come about with the formation of the club has been the
friendships that have been made and the great amount of flying knowledge that is being
passed on.

I think that the one mission of this club is to get everyone that we can addicted to this
wonderful hobby of R/C flying.
